Visual Artist and Graphic/Book Designer
Based in Lisbon, PT

In Miguel’s work there is a tendency to explore a conceptual process that stems from the existential quest to discover how the world presents itself to us in a very partial way, revealing the things that we don't see or that aren't said or that are hidden. It is in this circulation of these things, images, narratives or facts that he finds fertile environments for creating points of confluence. To do this, he has an (almost) 'investigative' attitude, where he goes in search of those facts, phenomena or narratives that are pertinent or adjunct to the theme he is working on, so that he can interconnect these 'findings' in temporal, spatial and thematic analogical discourses. There is then an implied strategy of reflection and/or comparison. Lately, his been interested in the dialogues of his cultural heritage, archival attitudes, the circulation of images, the simplification and transcoding of symbologies, including also esoteric themes. His multidisciplinary practice mainly involves small sculptural objects, photographs, installations, prints and artist's books.
